Grad Bites: Making it in Media
Nik Powell OBE had a distinguished career in the media industry, in both music and film. He co-founded Virgin Records with Richard Branson, and then went on to produce and direct many Oscar and BAFTA award-winning films, including ‘Company of Wolves’, ‘Mona Lisa’ and ‘The Crying Game’.
Sadly, Nik died in November 2019, but we were lucky enough to interview him and hear about his fascinating career journey and his thoughts about the media industry. In this video, Nik tells us about his work and gives his expert advice for people wanting to break into media. He also talks more generally, about the importance of being open to opportunities and having the courage to follow your own path.

Nik Powell OBE, was an influential force in the media industry: Co-Founder of Virgin Records, film director, producer and former Director of the National Film and Television School.
He was awarded the OBE in 2018 for his services to the Music, Film and Television Industries.
